In the official mandate letter to newly appointed Minister of Border Security and Organized Crime Bill Blair, the Prime Minister's office has instructed Blair to lead an examination into a national ban on handguns and assault weapons while not "impeding the lawful use of firearms by Canadians", an oxy-moron if I've ever heard one. Assault weapons have long been prohibited in this country. As for handguns, almost a million Canadians own, use and operate them in competition and target practice every day without incident so how do you not impede on this while banning them?
This government has a serious lack of understanding of the current regulations and an affinity for plucking the "low hanging fruit" that is firearms owners rather than cracking down on crime.
"Support the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness on the passage of Bill C-71, and work together on additional policy, regulations or legislation that could reduce crime involving the use of firearms and keep Canadians safe. You should lead an examination of a full ban on handguns and assault weapons in Canada, while not impeding the lawful use of firearms by Canadians."
It is clear that this Liberal government will be taking on gun owners, full speed ahead.
